A Bright Moon Makes A Little Daytime
Solo guitar piece for Marco Cappelli
In 2002/2003, Italian guitarist Marco Cappelli contacted me about a series of commissions he was curating for solo guitar.
During one of his trips to NYC, Marco showed me his modified
guitar. It is a acoustic 6-string guitar with 8 additional sympathetic
strings across body. After improvising with this guitar for a while, I came up with a tuning for the sympathetic strings
that I found very inspiring (the tuning is presented as the first 8 pitches in section 2).
Computer scores and mp3 versions are presented below. The piece calls for improvisation which of course can't be heard
in these computer renditions. I'm looking forward to the live performances so that perhaps we can get some
live recordings posted on this site.
Thanks Marco for the opportunity to write this new piece for you!
And thanks to my son Leo who came up with the title of the piece "A Bright Moon...".
